Thanksgiving Day Game
"Detroit and Dallas, where Thanksgiving Day football has become a normal." http://www.profootballhof.com/history/decades/1930s/first_thanksgiving.jsp But has it? Over the past years it has progressed from just Detroit and Dallas to a variety of teams. I am all about tradition, big games, and remembering history. In my opinion having other teams play on Thanksgiving day other than those two teams is a joke. Those two teams started that tradition and those two teams should be the only teams to play. I mean it might not seem like that big of a deal to most people everyone just wants to watch some games while they eat turkey but think about it. How important was the first thanksgiving day game to our football history? I just don't agree with playing other teams that have no signifcance to the Thanksgiving day history. Atleast that is my opinion. From now on i believe that no other professional football teams should play. We should continue the tradition and only have Detroit and Dallas because with out those teams the NFL could arguably not be what it is today.

I wasn't aware of this before you brought this issue up. I feel the same way. Detroit and Dallas should be the only games played. The other teams should let the players go home to their family and celebrate Thanksgiving. Other teams shouldn't interfere with history. When people think of Thanksgiving football, I bet Dallas and Detroit is the game they think of. Teams can make it the day before of after so it was be a span of good football but putting other games on Thanksgiving is the wrong thing to do. I agree completely.
It never really sank in to me that other teams besides Dallas and Detroit play on Thanksgiving Day. I guess I knew that but I never really paid attention. Now that it has been brought to my attention through your post I completely agree. What is sports without some sort of history and tradition? Although, it didn't register to me that other teams play on turkey day, I do know one thing for sure and that is that the Cowboys and Lions play every Thanksgiving. Most people would also know that too. I also agree with Lavin that the other NFL teams should play before and after Thanksgiving Day to in store the importance and traditon of the Cowboys and Lions, along with providing quality sports enetratinment over the holiday break.
I agree that the Lions and Dallas should be the only ones who play on Thanksgiving Day. When you think of Thanksgiving you think of food and football. Its a tradition that has gone on forever and the game that is normally watched is Detroit and Dallas. Barry Sanders and Emmit Smith are names that I always anticipated watching on this day and even though they are gone the game should still be upheld. I agree with everyone else when they say the other games should be played at different times because it decreases the value of this one. Besides Jason Hanson has made a living off of this day and to take that away would be ridiculous.
Nick I understand your concern with only wanted dallas and detroit to play on thanksgiving but the fact of that matter is those teams do not have the biggest football markets. Especially Detroit. I would much rather watch a good team play then one then is always stumbling to get barely below .500. The NFL adds other teams to draw more viewers and that is the bottom line. The goal is to sell the core product as best as they can and the NFL believe they can do that with varitation.
I never really thought of it but I have to disagree. First of all they both do play every year just not against each other. Second I like the other game because now you have more football and people always like more football. I like seeing different teams every year. I think that every team should get a chance to play on Thanksgiving. Yes I see that you like tradition but traditions have to change sometimes. And with Detroit being so bad lately I think it's better to see other teams. When you are around with family nothing's better then watching a good football game. The Lions and Cowboys have nothing to worry about because they will always play but it makes football so much better when other teams participate in traditions.
Yeah I do agree with you on this topic because its almost like the NBA during Christmas the only teams that should be playing is the Heat and the Lakers because when I think of Christmas day basketball I think of the Heat playing the Lakers. But back to the subject of football I agree that I don't think anyone would want to watch the other teams play on Thanksgiving day because everyone is so used to watching Dallas and Detroit play so they should be the only ones that do play on that day.
