OJ, What Are You Thinking?

O.J. Simpson. We all know that name way to well and we just had to hear it again this week. The man seems like he is looking for publicity. According to the ABC News O.J. was charged with attempted robbery of memorabilia. Now let's think about that. He tried to steal his own memorabilia. Now why on earth would you try and steal stuff that has been signed by yourself. That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Supposibly one of Simpson's associate was "acting like a cop" to the men they robbed. http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=3623005 I just can't see what went wrong with the man. He had everything and after he was done playing football he had to kill his wife and her friend. I just don't understand the man. My question is, does football, money, and fame make you act like a madman? In my opinion if you look at O.J. it certainly does. If you have all the money in the world and you are famous everywhere you go I think it gets into your head a little bit more than it should and makes you do some dumb things. I mean if you never had to worry about a thing in your life and everywhere you want everything just came so easy, would you get bored with it all? I just want to know if football and fame gets into players heads way too much.

I was just watching TV and heard O.J.’s name being blurted out as I was flipping through the channels. His case lasted five years and is still being talked about to this day. I believe that he is the ultimate example of a sports figure who had everything going for him but screwed himself over in the end. I think a lot of football players take their fame and let it run to their heads. Take TO For example. He is a great football player but is way too into himself. He got himself into a lot of trouble and even suspended from the Eagles, when he played for them, for five games. “Owens got into a scuffle with former Pro Bowl defensive lineman Hugh Douglas, now working in the Eagles' front office, in the team's training room. Douglas had questioned the severity of an ankle injury Owens claimed to have incurred against the Denver Broncos and the two had to be separated by teammates. Owens reportedly then went into the locker room and challenged any other players who had been talking about him behind his back.” (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/07/AR2005110701130.html). This great player ruined his career with the Eagles just because of his ego. There are many other players like this in the league who let their fame get into the way of their game. Many of them think they are invincible and can do whatever they want.

Nick, I agree that some players let fame and fortune go to their heads way too much. When players find success some tend to forget how they were raised and where they came from. In the O.J. case he is a guy that craves attention and has lost his purpose in life. He is a headcase that has lost all respect for himself and society. For example, when he wrote that book about how he would have killed his wife if he actually did it. Why would someone who went through all the trials and tribulations of a murder case want to bring it up again. Not only is it wrong, but think of how his wife's family felt when they heard about this. After football he had nothing left and is constantly trying to be in the spotlight. Although, this is one situation gone bad I do think that most players tend to be grounded and not let fame go to their heads. Its the select few that we unfortunately see.
